Using Hair Analysis to Clear Acne

As part of the consultation process I ask my patients to purchase a hair analysis test from Trace Minerals. I want to explain the reasons for this, as I appreciate that this is an additional cost.

In the early days I worked solely from spot types and symptoms. However there were times when I was unable to clear my patients skin. I knew with these patients I had to dig deeper; find an accurate way to identify deeper issues.  Many of these patients had requested numerous blood tests from their GP (their own request) but other than thyroid health, Vitamin D, B12 and Iron I could not see anything within the blood tests that gave me the information that I needed to identify underlying issues that caused acne.

7 years ago I introduced hair testing from Trace Elements who are based in Dallas Texas. I continued to work with my patients GP to get blood testing for Vitamin D, B12 and Iron. In this way I was able to accurately see what minerals my patients were deficient in, which helped me to see what vitamins they were deficient in as well as giving me an indication as to the health of their stomach.

Many doctors from around the world use hair analysis to treat their patients

There has been many books written by doctors who work with hair testing and I have to say that I would not be able to clear my patients skin without the incredible research that these doctors have undertaken.

I continue to work with patients from all over the world and in some cases their own GP is happy to request a hair test on their patients behalf. Whilst hair testing is not common practice with GPs in the UK, other doctors from around the world continue to use hair analysis for patients with underlying health issues.

Hair Analysis Testing Can Differ

There are companies however who are providing hair test results showing food intolerances, deficiencies in vitamins, minerals and amino acids and providing pages of suggested supplements and dietary changes.  In reality these tests are worthless. I will explain why.

To create balance we need to know the level of minerals within the body. Doctors who specialise in hair analysis have specified the healthy level that we can work towards. So with this type of hair testing we can see clearly if we are deficient and what we are aiming for. In this way if we need to take a specific mineral we know how much to take and for how long. For example, with Trace Minerals, the healthy level for calcium should be around 40, in some cases that I treat calcium levels can be over 300. This tells me that my patient is deficient in Vitamin B6 as well as possibly Vitamin D and magnesium.  We have something concrete to work with.

How can a person create balance when they do not know the actual level of the mineral they are deficient in and what they are aiming for? These questionable hair tests do not provide any information as to stomach health and this is a major factor for many acne patients. The list of food intolerances can also cause a person to live long-term from a very restricted diet.

It is important therefore to realise that not all hair testing is the same. I personally prefer to work with Trace Minerals as in this way I know if my patient has the correct minerals to neutralise acid in their blood, for their thyroid to work and for their stomach to make acid. I know that the results I receive are accurate and when balance is created this is reflected in my patients health as well as in second hair test if they choose this option.
